The Takahashi TSA-120 Ortho-Apo Triplet Refractor is a premium astronomical instrument from Takahashi Corporation, renowned for its exceptional optical quality and innovative design. This refractor telescope is part of the company's high-end TSA (Triplet Apo) series, which is known for its remarkable sharpness, color correction, and contrast.
The heart of this telescope is its 120mm (4.72 inches) triplet apochromatic objective lens, which is made up of three elements with different refractive indices. This triplet design effectively eliminates chromatic aberration, resulting in pinpoint-sharp stars and stunningly clear views of celestial objects. The lens is made of extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, which further enhances the correction of color fringing, providing a true-to-life representation of the night sky.
The telescope tube is made of high-grade, lightweight aluminum and is covered with a protective black anodized finish. The tube is supported by robust, adjustable aluminum legs, allowing for flexibility in observing positions. The telescope comes with a 2-inch Crayford-style focuser, which offers smooth, precise focus adjustment and is capable of accommodating a wide range of accessories, including eyepieces, cameras, and guiding systems.
The TSA-120 Ortho-Apo Triplet Refractor comes with a large 1.25-inch star diagonal, which provides an even larger image scale for easier observation. The telescope also includes a 25mm Pl ssl eyepiece, which offers a magnification of 48x, providing a wide field of view for locating and surveying celestial objects.
The telescope's optics are enclosed in a collapsible tube design, which makes it more portable and convenient for transportation and setup. Despite its compact size, this telescope delivers impressive performance, making it a popular choice among astrophotographers and visual observers alike.
The Takahashi TSA-120 Ortho-Apo Triplet Refractor comes with a two-year manufacturer's warranty, ensuring peace of mind for your investment in this high-performance astronomical instrument. With its exceptional optical quality, robust design, and versatile capabilities, this telescope is an excellent addition to any observatory or astrophotography setup.
The Takahashi TSA-120 Ortho-Apochromat Triplet Refractor OTA is a high-end, medium-sized refractor telescope known for its excellent optical performance. Here are some pros and cons that may help you decide if this telescope is the right choice for your observing needs:
Pros:1. Superior Optical Performance: This telescope is renowned for its high-quality optics, which provide excellent image clarity, sharpness, and color correction. It is an ideal choice for astronomers who prioritize image quality over other factors.
2. Versatility: The TSA-120 is a versatile telescope that can be used for various types of observing, including planetary, lunar, and deep-sky observing. Its wide field of view and high magnification capabilities make it a popular choice among astrophotographers as well.
3. Compact and Portable Design: Despite its high-performance specifications, the TSA-120 is relatively compact and portable. Its triplet design makes it more compact than other refractors of similar aperture, making it an excellent choice for observers who travel frequently.
4. Durable Construction: The telescope is built with high-quality materials and features a robust design, ensuring that it can withstand the rigors of frequent use and transportation.
5. Excellent Accessories: The TSA-120 comes with a range of high-quality accessories, including a heavy-duty mount, a high-quality finder scope, and a dew shield, among others.
Cons:1. High Price: The Takahashi TSA-120 is a high-end telescope, and its price reflects its superior optical performance and build quality. It may not be within the budget of all astronomers.
2. Requires Careful Handling: Due to its high optical quality and compact design, the TSA-120 requires careful handling to maintain its performance. This can be a challenge for some observers, particularly those who are new to telescope ownership.
3. Limited Aperture: The TSA-120 has a relatively small aperture compared to other telescopes in its class. While this does contribute to its compact size and portability, it also means that it may not gather as much light as larger telescopes, making it less suitable for observing very faint objects.
Conclusion:The Takahashi TSA-120 Ortho-Apochromat Triplet Refractor OTA is an excellent choice for astronomers who prioritize image quality and versatility in a compact and portable package. Its superior optical performance, durable construction, and high-quality accessories make it a worthwhile investment for serious observers. However, its high price tag and limited aperture may make it a less suitable choice for those on a budget or who prioritize light-gathering ability over other factors.
Recommendation:If you are an experienced astronomer with a significant budget and a priority on image quality and versatility, the Takahashi TSA-120 is an excellent choice for you. However, if you are new to telescope ownership, have a limited budget, or prioritize light-gathering ability over other factors, you may want to consider other options, such as a larger reflector telescope or a mid-range refractor with a larger aperture. Ultimately, the decision on whether to purchase the Takahashi TSA-120 depends on your individual observing needs and preferences.
For sale is an as new Tak TSA-120. There is no damage, and it always performed as you would expect from a Tak. I purchased new in 2018 from wood land Hills and since have used it very little, no more than five times. Both ends have always been covered except in use, and the tube itself is almost unmarked.
This scope is in as new condition. In this sale I am selling only the optical tube assembly, as parting out rest of my equipment separately, including a mount if you re interested. The TSA-120 is $5240 new. Happy to answer any questions.
