Review JSO Schmidt cassegrain Telescope Inch Japan Special Optics

The NSC-12B Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope from Jasco Astronomy is an impressive optical instrument designed for both amateur and professional astronomers. This telescope features a Schmidt-Cassegrain design, which combines the benefits of both reflecting and refracting telescopes, resulting in a compact yet high-performance system.

At the heart of this telescope is a 12-inch (305 mm) primary mirror, which is made of high-quality BK7 glass. This large primary mirror gathers a significant amount of light, providing excellent image brightness and contrast, making it an ideal choice for observing deep-sky objects and celestial phenomena. The mirror is also coated with multiple layers of aluminum and silicon oxide to ensure maximum reflectivity and minimal light loss.

The NSC-12B also includes a secondary mirror with a correcting plate, which is essential for correcting the light path distortion caused by the Schmidt corrector plate. This design results in a more accurate and sharper image, which is crucial for precise observations and accurate data collection.

The telescope's optical tube assembly is constructed from high-strength carbon fiber, making it both lightweight and rigid. This material also provides excellent thermal stability, ensuring that the telescope maintains a consistent temperature, which is essential for maintaining accurate focus and reducing image distortion.

The NSC-12B comes with a dual-speed Crayford focuser, which provides precise and smooth focusing control. The focuser has a 2-inch (50 mm) aperture, allowing for the use of a wide range of eyepieces and accessories. The telescope also includes a 2-inch diagonal, which converts the image orientation from reversed to normal, making it easier to use visual observing accessories.

The telescope's mounting system is a German Equatorial Mount (GEM), which provides accurate tracking and precise movement in both right ascension and declination. The mount includes a hand controller with a database of over 40,000 celestial objects, making it easy to locate and track your desired targets. The mount also includes a built-in autoguider port, which can be used for automated guided tracking, making long exposure astrophotography possible.

The NSC-12B Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope from Jasco Astronomy is an excellent choice for astronomers who demand high performance, accuracy, and versatility in their optical instruments. Its large primary mirror, Schmidt-Cassegrain design, high-quality materials, and precise mounting system make it a reliable and capable instrument for exploring the wonders of the night sky.

The Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with an aperture of 12 inches (NSC-12B) manufactured by Jasco Astronomy (JSO) is an popular choice for amateur astronomers due to its compact design and good optics. Here are some pros and cons of buying this telescope:

Pros:

1. Compact and portable design: The NSC-12B is a transportable telescope, making it an excellent choice for observing from various locations.

2. Good optics: The Schmidt-Cassegrain design of this telescope provides a wide field of view and good image quality.

3. Easy to use: The telescope comes with a computerized mount, making it simple to locate and track celestial objects.

4. Versatile: The NSC-12B can be used for both visual and photographic observations.

5. Affordable: Compared to other 12-inch telescopes, the NSC-12B is priced reasonably.

Cons:

1. Requires periodic collimation: The Schmidt-Cassegrain design of this telescope necessitates periodic collimation to maintain optimal image quality.

2. Heavy for some: With a weight of around 70 lbs, the NSC-12B can be challenging for some to transport and set up alone.

3. Limited aperture: A 12-inch aperture limits the telescope's ability to gather as much light as larger telescopes, which can impact the viewing experience of faint or distant objects.

In conclusion, the JSO NSC-12B Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope offers a good balance between portability, image quality, and affordability. Its compact design, computerized mount, and good optics make it an attractive choice for amateur astronomers. However, the need for periodic collimation, weight, and limited aperture should be considered before making a purchase.

If you are an amateur astronomer looking for a compact and affordable 12-inch telescope with good optics, the NSC-12B could be an excellent addition to your equipment. However, if you require a more portable telescope with a larger aperture or are looking for a more lightweight option, you may want to consider alternative models. Ultimately, the decision depends on your specific observing needs and budget.

There is a small scratch on the corrector, and anti-reflective coating inside of corrector in one region has different hue see pictures. I am selling my Japan Special Optics NSC-12B. Aperture: 125mm 5 Focal length : 1200mm, The mirrors are in excellent shape. The telescope is well-collated, and well-corrected for spherical aberration.

Comes with the original metal lens cap, finder scope, compression-ring visual back and 1.25 inch diagonal. Cosmetically, there are some paint chips on the body and finder. I can provide images of an auto-collation test to demonstrate the smoothness optics and correction for spherical aberration. It was made by a Japanese firm that went out of business in the 1980, and has reputation for having some best Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes available.

This of course does not affect the image and is merely a sign age use.
