Review APERTURA 12ft Dobsonian

The Apertura AD12 Dobsonian Telescope is an excellent choice for those seeking a large aperture telescope for deep sky observation without the complexities and costs associated with equatorial mounts. With a 12-inch (305mm) primary mirror, this telescope gathers an impressive amount of light, making it perfect for observing faint deep sky objects, such as galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters.

The Dobsonian design of this telescope offers simplicity and ease of use. Its altazimuth mount allows for smooth and easy movement in both altitude and azimuth, making it an ideal choice for visual observation. The telescope comes with a sturdy and robust base, ensuring stability during use.

The primary mirror of the Apertura AD12 is made of high-quality borosilicate glass, which is known for its excellent optical properties. The mirror is also figured to a high standard, ensuring accurate reflection of light and producing sharp and clear images. Additionally, the telescope comes with a 2-inch (50mm) Crayford focuser, allowing for easy focus and the use of various eyepieces.

The telescope tube is made of lightweight and durable steel, with a black finish that provides both an aesthetic appeal and protection from the elements. The tube also features a convenient handle, making it easy to transport and set up.

The Apertura AD12 comes with a range of accessories, including a 25mm and 10mm Plossl eyepiece, a 90-degree diagonal, a finderscope, and a star diagonal. These accessories provide a comprehensive observing experience, enabling users to explore the night sky in detail.

Overall, the Apertura AD12 Dobsonian Telescope offers a large aperture, ease of use, and excellent optics, making it an excellent choice for those seeking to explore the depths of the night sky without the need for complex equatorial mounts.

The Apertura AD12 Dobsonian telescope is a popular choice among amateur astronomers due to its large aperture and affordable price. Here are some pros and cons to help you decide if this telescope is the right one for you:

Pros:

1. Large Aperture: With a 12-inch (305mm) primary mirror, the AD12 offers excellent light gathering ability, making it an ideal choice for observing faint deep sky objects, such as galaxies and nebulae.

2. Affordable: Compared to other telescopes with similar aperture sizes, the AD12 is relatively affordable, making it an excellent option for those on a budget.

3. Portable: The AD12 is a portable telescope, making it easy to transport to dark sky sites for better observing conditions.

4. Easy to Use: Dobsonian telescopes are known for their simplicity and ease of use, making the AD12 an excellent choice for beginners or those who want to get started in astronomy without the need for complex setups.

Cons:

1. Manual Tracking: Dobsonian telescopes do not have motorized tracking systems, which means that you will need to manually adjust the telescope to keep your target in view as the Earth rotates. This can be time-consuming and may limit your ability to observe objects that require long exposure times.

2. Limited Resolution: While the AD12 offers excellent light gathering ability, its resolution may not be as high as that of more expensive telescopes with similar aperture sizes. This means that you may not be able to observe finer details or resolve very small objects.

3. Limited Accessories: The AD12 comes with a few basic accessories, such as a finderscope and a collimation tool, but you may need to purchase additional accessories, such as a Barlow lens or a filter kit, to fully utilize the telescope's capabilities.

Conclusion:

The Apertura AD12 Dobsonian telescope offers an excellent balance between affordability, portability, and observing capabilities. Its large aperture makes it an excellent choice for observing deep sky objects, while its simplicity and ease of use make it an ideal choice for beginners or those who want to get started in astronomy without the need for complex setups. However, its manual tracking system and limited accessories may require additional investment to fully utilize its capabilities.

Recommendation:

If you are looking for a large aperture telescope that is affordable, portable, and easy to use, the Apertura AD12 Dobsonian is an excellent choice. However, if you require a telescope with higher resolution or motorized tracking capabilities, you may want to consider investing in a more expensive telescope or adding additional accessories to the AD12 to enhance its performance. Ultimately, the decision to purchase the AD12 depends on your specific observing goals and budget.

Details:

Base has a little wear and the eyepiece rack is missing. There is nothing like scanning the Milky Way with a large dob, and just in time for summer. I'll throw in a couple PLO's eyepieces if you want them 25 and 9 millimeter. Optics are excellent, selling to fund a new mount unfortunately.

Apertura 12 Dobsonian, dual speed focused, 1.25 eyepiece adapter, padded carry bag for OTA, two red finders a Tel rad and cheap dot, straps. Was like that when I bought it.
